JeffM, I have to agree with you, I thought it was a little high to. I received that price from a New Hampshire dealer via the Internet, he was probably a 2 hour drive from me in traffic. I wound up buying a 1988 JD 950 MFWD T/L/B (my first compact) for $11,500 from my local JD dealer who is maybe fifteen minutes away. It was a nice clean machine who's owners I knew. It will work beautifully for me until I pay it off and then trade it in on something newer. Mark

Roger, Thank you for the explanation. I guess I have never seen it. I grew up on a small working farm and my Dad and I did quite a bit of fencing but we never used anything like that, back then in New Hampshire it was mostly barbed wire (30 yrs. ago) give or take. Mark

Peter, I hear what you are saying about the two seats. My Brother in Law just bought a JD 790 T/L/B and I noticed that with his you can only have one seat down at a time. Seems like it could be a pain in the butt. Put one up, put one down. It will probably become second nature after a while and you won't even notice it. My JD 950 T/L/B allows me to have both seats down at the same time although they will rub together occasionally. In general I find it to be a small price to pay as long as I don't have to run the shovel any more than necessary. Hoghead, I looked at the link I listed below and didn't find very much on the 210-4, except that it was apparently made from 1978 to 1984. they say that the plate location is on steering column below the instrument panel. By matching up the serial number from there list you should be able to verify the year made. Sorry I could not be of more help. Good luck. Mark

Domenico, I know very little of the gray market lines, my research before I bought was centered arund the big 3. I would think that the New Holland
TC25(D), TC29(D), TC33(D) would handle what you are looking to do. The TC35(D) is a considerably bigger tractor frame wize ect. The John Deere 790 is quite a little tractor. My brother in law just bought one with loader and backhoe with a mid mount mower to take care of a fairly large estate type property he owns (Alot of mowing) The 790 I believe comes with a mid PTO, unfortunatly it does not come with Hydrostatic drive, or so I have been told. A mid PTO would be a good thing if you want a mid mower, if you want to go with a rear 3 point hitch finish mower you wouldn't need it. My reading and research tells me that these modern compacts can handle good size implements, my limited knowledge prevents me from knowing and saying what size implements a particular tractor can take. There are a lot of experianced and knowledgeable people on this board, I am sure they can and will provide you with helpfull information so you can make a sound decision. Good Luck. Mark

Chris, I have no experiance with Hydrostatic equipment (yet)so I don't know how much help I can be. I would think and believe that an HST filter is like a automobile filter with that flat rubber O Ring on it. If that O ring is in good shape and the filter is tight it shouldn't leak. I think before I tryed using a bandaid type fix, ie gasket sealer. I would check the gasket and replace the filter if necessary. The old addage (as my Dad use to say) If your going to fix it, fix it right. Good Luck. Mark

neil, Try the link listed below, go through the few steps to bring up you particular make and model number and you can atleast read some of the specs on the tractor. They do list the 244, I looked, although I don't remember the details. Good luck, hope this helps. Mark

Thank you guys for all you input, it is very much appreciated. Taking into consideration what Bernie has said. If the 5.50 and the 7.50 represent the width of the tire when inflated, then theoreticly the rolling circumference wouldn't have changed all that much, if at all, (unless the height of the side walls are differant). the only thing that has changed would have been the width of the tire. The tires that were on the front were a Goodyear diamond tread R3 with a 4 ply rating in an extremely worn state. I opted for a light truck tire of the same size 7.50-16 with a very mild snow tread and a 8 ply rating. I figured the very mild snow tread would give the necessary traction when needed but didn't stray to far from Galaxy R3's on the rear. The 8 ply side walls would give all the stregnth I would ever need with the front end loader. As I said before, when in 4WD, driving accros dirt, I do see tracks being made by the front tires, I am assuming that because the front tires are pulling rather than free wheeling, there leaving tracks. Do any of you see front tire tracks from your tractors while in 4WD. I am not new to tractors, although it has been a long time and this is the first one that I personally have ever owned. I grew up on a small working farm and have been around tractors most all my life. We never had any that were 4WD so that part is very new to me. But I got to say. Murph, The JD 950 has an debris screen very much like you described built right into it although it sits close, right in front of the radiater (you may already know this). When I bought my tractor a couple of months ago I had to slide it out and clean it. It seems to do a nice job of collecting a lot of stuff that would wind up in the radiator fins otherwise. Mark

BeeFarmer, I would say those sound like great prices. I was qouted (before serious negotiating) $21,200 for the TC35D with loader,72" bucket, industrial tires. I don't know if that was with a heater or not. If I can get a price like that form my local dealer when I am ready to get my TC35D I will be very pleased. Good luck with your new tractor. Mark

Roger, I was always under the impression and belief that any dealer of "whose ever brand" was under an obligation to honor warranty work. From what mike K says, I guess they will if the circumstances require it. When I got ready to do the serious negotiating for my TC35D, I did have plans of keeping it local. My closest dealer is about a 30 minute drive in good traffic. Mike K's contract information sure gives me food for thought, in being willing to apply that extra effort, to work with my dealer, so as to arrive at a price that we can both be happy with. Dave, I live in Moultonborough and I haven't heard anything about them going under. I will have to ask around and see what I can find out. I just tried there phone # 539-2278 and it just rings.
